Memphis And Shelby County Room

The Memphis and Shelby County Room is an area within the History/Social Sciences Department on the 4th floor of Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library where researchers may view items from the library’s archival and manuscript collections. These include historical records of people and families, maps, photographs, newspaper vertical files, books, and music and video recordings. DIG MEMPHIS is short for Digital Memphis (memphislibrary.org/digmemphis).

DIG MEMPHIS is Memphis Public Libraries’ digital archive. Created to provide greater access to archival material, DIG showcases many of the treasures found in the Memphis and Shelby County Room, including photographs, letters, audio recordings, videos, maps, etc. All of the digital material is organized and stored in the unique DIG MEMPHIS archive.

 

Germantown Regional History & Genealogy Center

The GRHGC is the special collections division of Germantown Community Library. It serves as a repository and research center for historic and genealogical materials, southern culture and the Germantown History Collection. The collections of the Germantown Regional History and Genealogy Center consist of non-circulating, research-level collections of books, ephemera, microfilm, computer-based files, periodicals, photographs, maps and vertical files on the cultural, architectural, genealogical and historical heritage of the South, with emphasis on the Mid-South, Eastern and Southern states. Some records may be available in multiple formats. Circulating copies of select material are available at Germantown Community Library. Shelby County Archives

(Northwest area of Shelby Farms Park; just south of Mullins Station Road and Shelby Farms Greenline).
The Register of Deeds is Shelby County’s elected record keeper involving tax liens (State & Federal), property titles, mortgages, bankruptcy documents, marriage settlements, contracts, powers of attorney, real estate conveyances, armed forces discharges & various affidavits. The Register also manages the Shelby County Archives which preserves the history of our county and provides a valuable resource to members of the community researching the past.
